New Quilt underway

A couple of months ago DDs and I went to visit a friend who lives at Poowong, in Gippsland. Now my girls will tell you that there is never a road trip that does not involve a quilt or craft shop stop. So of course I found one Craft Quarters in KooWeeRup, what a gem beautiful fabrics lovely helpers they even carry glad press and seal. Yes I bought some because I heard it was hard to get, now i just have to figure out how to use it. Anyway whilst we were there DD13 fell in love with a quilt that was displayed in store by Liz Stanway called Grandpa's Little Treasures. So we bought the pattern but then DD announced that she wanted exactly the same fabrics, much searching on net to no avail. So I phoned Liz who was very helpful with the range name but not hopeful we would still be able to get, but at least I now had a name. the search continued for sometime, eventually the Tinkers cart were able to help us. Where was i going with this?....... Oh yes I have now got all of the applique and stitchery assembled ready to be worked here are a couple.

I have also been working on some of my swap blocks today, but will have to keep them under wraps until swap partners receive them. Don't want to spoil the surprise.

"What on earth are you doing with those?" is what my girls asked me when they saw me digging in cupboards and assembling a pile of bits and pieces. You should have seen the eye rolling when I tried to explain my plan. Curious, well you'll have to visit In the Garden Page to find out.

Thank heavens for handwork

I recently found myself unexpectedly in hospital and having emergency surgery, after 30 years of nursing it was quite strange being the patient. My saving grace was a recently cut out small applique which was virtually completed during my hospital stay and recovery. It was amazing how many conversations were had over this little piece. Nurses, doctors, patients and visitors who came over to see what I was doing knew someone or had a relation who quilted or sewed, it was comforting to know that I was a little part of something big. It was truly the most wonderful distraction in a time of need.

Mmmmm.........What will I be doing with these?

Last Thursday I spoke with Sue Bennet from Miss Sampson Drapery re some more flannel. I had bought a bundle of bright flannels at the Mad Quilters thingy in Melbourne and made a striptease quilt which DD21 promptly claimed before it was finished. Hence DD13 now requests same quilt different colours to take on school camp 2 weeks time ( no pressure what else do I have to do, so true ). So asked Sue if she would put together some chocolates and pinks. No problem said sue I will have them in to Swan Hill to post today......Well guess what arrived on our doorstep 10am next day, a beautiful selection of flannels as requested. DD13 was very, very please with the colours Sue had put together and her prompt service. Take a look. 

Interesting collection of pieces, wonder what is going on here? Clue I am a member of The Quilt Show, always looking to try something new.

Whoa.......getting this blog started

Yahooooo....... I think I am ready to roll with my blog it has taken me a while, not computer friendly, but hopefully you will find my blog interesting. I have started to get things on other pages so please have a look. Especially check out baking and recipes. DD13 has been watching Nigella since she got out of bed so I know that means more baking on the horizon. 

Many hands, feathers and feet make light work

They say that many hands, feathers and feet make light work. Yep that is true, earlier this week I was preparing a new bed in the vegetable plot and I had the help of our ever trusty feathered friends. They have no fear of me wheeling the garden fork I have more fear of injuring them. However their antics and hard work get the hard work completed in good company....After all their hard work DD comes along to give them a thank you pat or as we call it the "chicken massage".

I was also hopeful of the blossom on our pear tree and dream of having pears this year and also look forward to a bounty of nashi, if the blossom is anything to go by.

Co-ordinated cards

Hi there,
              I am trying to give you an idea of some of the items i like to make. My girls like their cards to co-ordinate and reflect something about their birthdays especially special birthdays. So hopefully below you will see two cards that reflect what special shoes my girls received or were wearing on their birthdays. The 21st card also reflects the colour theme of DD's party. I have only just started to dabble in papercraft so hopefully i will develop alot more skills as i go along.
